Bible Passage:
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
— 1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)

Truth to Remember:
God is faithful and sovereign. Those who trust Him and submit to His guidance experience His peace and provision.
Devotional Reflection
For a long time, I struggled with wanting to control the direction and timing of my life. I chased my own ideas of success, making plans and moving forward before truly seeking God’s guidance. I might have prayed along the way, but it was more like adding God as a tag rather than seeking Him first. Even now, I sometimes try to take the lead—planning, protecting outcomes, and acting before waiting on Him—because it feels safer than trusting God’s hand. That striving drains my peace and pulls my heart away from the rest He offers.
God has been teaching me to humble myself under His hand and trust His care. Even when I pray or try to leave matters in His hands, I still feel like my own planning accomplishes more than trusting Him could. I realize I need His help to change this mindset. He is teaching me to pause, seek His guidance first, and allow growth without forcing outcomes. As I surrender control day by day, I experience His peace and support, learning that His timing and guidance are wiser than anything I could arrange on my own.
Application: Walking in Humility
In 1 Peter 5:6, we are invited to trust God instead of striving in our own strength. Resting in His wisdom and timing does not mean life will always be easier, especially when we cling to our own ideas of success or what is good. As we seek His ways and submit to His care, we can trust that “God works all things together for good” (Romans 8:28)—a good that shapes our lives, strengthens our faith, and aligns with His greater purposes. When we remember that God is faithful and sovereign, we are reassured that placing our trust in Him will lead to outcomes far better than anything we could plan on our own.
Reflection Question:
Where in your life are you relying on your own plans instead of trusting God’s timing, and how can you humble yourself under His hand today?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Thank You for being faithful and sovereign. Forgive us for relying on our own plans and striving in our own strength. Help us to humble ourselves under Your hand, trust Your perfect timing, and release our plans into Your care. Teach us to walk in Your ways, knowing You work all things together for good and lift us up in ways greater than we could imagine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Claiming God’s Promise:
I surrender my striving, trust God’s guidance, and He positions me according to His perfect timing.
