The Gospel: An Invitation to Salvation

What Is the Gospel?
The word gospel means “good news.” At its core, the gospel is the good news of what God has done for humanity through Jesus Christ.
God created us for relationship with Him. He desires that we know Him, walk with Him, and live under His loving care. But sin entered the world and affected every part of human life. Sin is more than just wrong actions—it is a condition of the heart that separates us from God. Because God is holy and just, sin carries real consequences, including eternal separation from Him.
Out of love, God did not abandon us. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, to live a sinless life in perfect obedience to the Father. Jesus did what we could not do—He lived in complete righteousness.
Through His death on the cross, Jesus took upon Himself the penalty of our sin, bearing the judgment we deserved. His resurrection from the dead demonstrated victory over sin and death and confirmed that salvation is complete and trustworthy.
This is the gospel: God saves sinners by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. He saves us from the penalty of sin, the power sin has over our lives, and eternal separation from Him. Through Jesus, we are offered forgiveness, restored relationship with God, and the hope of eternal life.

How to Accept the Gospel
The gospel invites a response. Accepting the gospel is not about earning God’s favor or becoming perfect. It is about surrender and trust.

  1. Acknowledge your need
Recognize that you cannot save yourself through good works, discipline, or religious effort. Sin affects the heart, and only God can restore it.
  2. Repent
Repentance means turning away from sin and self-rule and turning toward God. It is a change of heart and direction, not merely regret.
  3. Believe in Jesus Christ
Place your trust in Jesus—His life, His death, and His resurrection—as sufficient for your salvation. Faith is reliance, not performance.
  4. Receive God’s gift
Salvation is a gift of grace. When you believe, God forgives you, reconciles you to Himself, and gives you new life.
  5. Be baptized
Baptism is an outward symbol of your inward faith. It represents the washing away of sin and the beginning of a new life in Christ. While it does not save you, it is an important step of obedience and public identification with Jesus.

If you desire, you may express this response to God in prayer, speaking honestly from your heart. God hears sincere faith.

    What Happens After You Believe
Becoming a Christian is the beginning of a new life, not the end of growth. God begins a work of transformation in the believer’s heart:
You are forgiven and reconciled to God
You are adopted as a child of God
You receive new desires shaped by God’s will
You are given the Holy Spirit to guide, teach, and strengthen you

Growth in the Christian faith is a lifelong process. God patiently shapes the heart to reflect His character.

    Growing in Your Faith
Following Jesus is a journey. It does not mean life will be free from challenges, but it does mean you have a loving guide, the Holy Spirit, and a community of believers to support you.
    As you walk with God:

    1. Pray daily: Share your heart with God and listen for His guidance.
    2. Read the Bible: Learn more about God’s character, His promises, and His plan for your life.
    3. Join a community: Fellowship with other believers encourages growth, accountability, and support.
    4. Serve others: Reflect God’s love by showing kindness and compassion in practical ways.

Remember, spiritual growth is a process. God works patiently in your heart, shaping your character, renewing your mind, and strengthening your faith.

A Simple Prayer to Begin Your Journey
If you feel ready to accept Jesus Christ as
your Saviour, you may pray something like this:
“Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins and rose again to give me new life. I surrender my life to You and ask You to be my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for Your grace, and help me to follow You every day. Amen.”
Praying this prayer is a step of faith. If you prayed sincerely, congratulations—you are now beginning a relationship with God!
    Next Steps
    1. Tell someone: Share your decision with a trusted friend, family member, or a local church leader.
    2. Consider baptism: Baptism is a public expression of your faith and a symbol of being washed clean from sin. Talk to a local church about being baptized.
    3. Seek a Bible-based church: Being part of a local church provides teaching, fellowship, and opportunities to serve.
    4. Keep learning: Read the Bible regularly and seek resources that help you understand God’s Word and His plan for your life.
God’s invitation is always open. His love is steadfast, His grace is sufficient, and His Spirit will guide you every step of the way.
