Bible Passage:
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. – James 1:6–7 (NIV)

Truth to Remember:
God invites us to ask Him in faith, trusting His wisdom and character fully, without a divided heart toward Him.

Devotional Reflection

This verse highlights the importance of approaching God with an undivided heart when we ask Him for wisdom. There are moments when we pray for guidance but still hold back trust, continuing to rely heavily on our own reasoning or other voices as our main reference point. Instead of resting in God’s ability to give wisdom, the heart becomes divided, and this creates instability within us.

God has been helping me see that this kind of divided trust is what James is warning against. It is not simply about uncertainty in my thoughts, but about whether my heart is fully trusting Him when I come to Him in prayer. He is teaching me that He is faithful to give wisdom generously, and I am invited to remain anchored in that truth instead of shifting between trust in Him and trust in other sources. As I learn to rely on Him more fully, I experience greater steadiness and peace in how I respond.

Application: Walking in Steady Faith

When you come to God in prayer, choose to trust Him with an undivided heart. Do not approach Him while quietly holding back trust or giving equal weight to other sources as though He may not come through. Instead, come believing that He hears you and that He is willing to give wisdom generously. Let your posture in prayer reflect confidence in who He is, not uncertainty about whether He will respond.

This does not mean you will have no questions or emotions, but it does mean you remain anchored in God’s character after you pray. When doubts try to pull you in different directions, resist the urge to chase multiple sources for reassurance. Instead, rest in His ability to guide you, and stay open and responsive to what He has already made clear through His Word and His leading.

Reflection Question:
Am I coming to God with full trust in His wisdom and character, or am I holding back trust by relying equally on other sources of direction?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting us to come to You in prayer and for Your promise to give wisdom generously. Help us to trust You with an undivided heart. When we are tempted to rely more on our own understanding or other voices, remind us of Your faithfulness and truth. Teach us to remain steady in faith after we pray, trusting that You are able and willing to guide us. Thank You for Your patience, wisdom, and constant care for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Claiming God’s Promise:
I ask God in faith, trusting His wisdom and remaining anchored in Him with an undivided heart.
