Bible Passage:
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’ — Hebrews 13:5-6 (NIV)

Truth to Remember:
God is faithful and always present. His promise to never leave or forsake His children gives us confidence to live with contentment and trust in Him.
Devotional Reflection:
At first glance, it may not seem obvious how keeping my life free from the love of money connects to God’s promise to never leave or forsake me. But as I reflected more on these verses, I began to understand the wisdom behind them. It is easy to fall into the mindset that having more money, success, or possessions will finally bring contentment and peace. But the pursuit never truly ends. There is always something more to gain, something more to accomplish, or another level to reach. Over time, money, status, and achievements can slowly become the place where I look for security and worth, leaving me stuck in a cycle of striving, fear, comparison, and discontentment. Yet none of those things can truly satisfy or give lasting peace.
God’s Word reminded me that He is the true source of security and peace. His promise, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you,” helped me realize that my trust and security cannot rest in money, possessions, or the opinions of others. Money itself is not wrong, and neither is working hard or being responsible. But God showed me that the danger comes when I begin depending on those things more than depending on Him. As I continue learning to trust His presence and provision, my heart finds peace. True contentment is not found in having everything I want, but in knowing that God is with me and will faithfully provide what I need through every season of life.
Application: Walking in Contentment
Contentment does not mean you stop working hard or neglect your responsibilities. Rather, this passage challenges you to examine where your security truly comes from. Are you trusting in money, success, or the approval of others more than in God’s faithful presence?
When fear, striving, or discontentment begin to rise in your heart, return to God’s promise: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Because God is with you, you can live with peace instead of constantly chasing what can never truly satisfy.
Reflection Question:
What fears or desires are making it difficult for you to fully trust God and live with contentment?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your promise to never leave or forsake me. Forgive me for the times I have placed my trust in money, status, or the approval of others instead of in You. Teach me to rest in Your presence and to find true contentment in You alone. Help me release my fears and trust that You are my provider and helper. Strengthen my heart to live with peace, confidence, and faith each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Claiming God’s Promise:
The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. God will never leave me nor forsake me.
