Bible Passage:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. — Matthew 6:34

Truth to Remember:

God is faithful and will provide the grace and provision we need for today, so we do not have to carry today’s challenges alone or borrow the struggles and worries of tomorrow.

Devotional Reflection

Worrying about tomorrow is an unproductive way of spending my time and energy, because tomorrow has not even arrived yet. I often find myself overwhelmed with thoughts about the future—about things I cannot control or predict. But Jesus tells me that today’s troubles are enough for today, and worrying about tomorrow only adds unnecessary stress.

This does not mean I should avoid planning or preparing for the future, but rather that I should not let fear or anxiety about tomorrow prevent me from fully engaging with today. I can trust God with my future, knowing that He will equip me with what I need when the time comes. I can say, “If the Lord allows me to see tomorrow, then I would like these things done,” without carrying the weight of tomorrow today.

The hymn, I Know Who Holds Tomorrow, beautifully reflects this truth:

“I don’t know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day. I don’t borrow from its sunshine, for its skies may turn to gray.

Many things about tomorrow, I don’t seem to understand; But I know who holds tomorrow, And I know who holds my hand.”

(From the hymn I Know Who Holds Tomorrow by Ira Forest Stanphill. Lyrics accessed via “hymnary.org”

Those words remind me that while I may not know what lies ahead, God does. I do not have to borrow tomorrow’s worries when God has already promised grace for today.

Application: Walking in Daily Trust

Matthew 6:34 is a refreshing reminder that God desires for you to rely on Him today for whatever it brings. He knows that taking on tomorrow’s worries is not in your best interest. Let this become a way of life grounded in trust, so you are not living in a constant state of overwhelm, but instead walking in the peace He offers through each moment He gives you.

Reflection Question:

What steps can you take today to trust God more fully, knowing that He will equip you for whatever tomorrow brings?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that worrying about tomorrow only distracts me from today’s responsibilities. Help me to focus on what You’ve placed in front of me right now and trust that You will provide for what comes next. When I feel overwhelmed by my future, remind me to let go of fear and trust in Your provision. Teach me to live fully in the present, knowing You hold tomorrow in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Claiming God’s Promise:

I trust God to sustain me today with the grace, provision, and guidance I need for today.
