Bible Passage:
His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. — Psalms 147:10-11 NIV

Truth to Remember:
God delights in those who fear Him and put their hope in His unfailing love. As we walk with Him, we experience the joy of a life that pleases Him.
Devotional Reflection
In Psalm 147:10–11, the psalmist explains that God does not delight in the strength of a horse or the physical ability of a warrior. Horses were used in battle, and a warrior’s strong legs helped him move quickly and fight. These were things people admired and depended on for strength and protection. What delights God, however, is a heart that fears Him, meaning one that respects and honours Him, recognizes His authority, and seeks to obey Him. He also delights in those who put their hope in His unfailing love, trusting in His faithfulness rather than their own strength.
I find it difficult to resist the pressure to fit in and meet the expectations of what others consider important or necessary to be valued. When I do not have or measure up to these things, I can feel inadequate. At other times, I find myself striving to meet these expectations because I want to be accepted and do not want to stand out or be disliked. I can see how easily what others value can influence how I see myself and what I pursue. Yet God reminds me that these things are not what bring Him delight. What matters is that I fear Him and put my hope in His unfailing love. I need to find my security in knowing that I am living in a way that pleases Him, rather than measuring myself by what others think. I pray He helps me remember this and live accordingly.
Application: Walking in God’s Delight
When you find yourself wanting something others consider important, ask yourself why. Is it because you genuinely desire it, or because you want to fit in and be accepted? Be honest about what is influencing your choices and whether your desires reflect what pleases God.
Reflection Question:
Am I pursuing certain things because I value them, or because I want the acceptance and approval of others?
Prayer:
Father God, forgive me for allowing the expectations of others to shape how I see myself and what I pursue. When I feel pressured to fit in or measure up, remind me that my worth is not determined by what others admire or approve of. Help me look to Your Word to guide my choices and give me the courage to follow Your ways, even when they differ from what others expect. Teach me to put my hope in Your unfailing love and find my security in belonging to You rather than striving for the acceptance of others. Let my choices reflect what pleases You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Claiming God’s Promise:
I will seek to live in a way that pleases God, trusting in His unfailing love rather than the approval of others. My security is in Him.
